Snowboarding

Sam and I and a bunch of other Wileys got together to celebrate MLK weekend the traditional way by taking a ski vacation. We rented a cabin for the weekend slopeside at Timberline Resortin Canaan Valley, West Virginia. The Canaan Valley is a very beautiful area all year long and has some of the best skiing in the mid-Atlantic. We arrived Thursday night and awoke Friday morning to fresh powder and empty lift lines.
Great skiing. Terrible lodge. I was glad we were slopeside.

By the time Sunday rolled around, Sam, Jesse and I were pretty tired or otherwise injured. Jesse cut his chin open on Friday and had to go to the hospital for stitches. He then wore himself out Saturday. I wrenched my knee Saturday getting off the lift and Sam wasn't feeling well. So while John hit the slopes Sunday morning, we went to Blackwater Falls State Park to check out the frozen waterfall.

The trail down to the falls was closed, but at a well worn path in the snow. This little sign wasn't going to stop us for seeing a very impressive sight.
Blackwater Falls almost completely frozen over
We had a really great time in the mountains with real snow. I got the chance to go ice skating with Sam's mom. I hadn't been skating in over 10 years, but all those years of roller blading really helped because I didn't fall once. I think we will make this into an annual tradition and try for a midweek vacation next year to avoid the weekend lines.
